  • Route of administration, dosage and expected effect

  • Injection technique (practical)

  • Handling of side-effects and anaphylaxis

Who Should Enrol

This course is intended for pharmacists and other registered healthcare practitioners who want to perform injections in a clinic setting.
Entrance is open for all healthcare practitioners who are registered as such with their respective councils and who are included in the EPI as immunisers.

Learning Outcomes

Upon the successful completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Become vaccinators, vaccine advocates
  • Promote the importance of immunisation in reducing vaccine-preventable diseases
  • Help with dispelling myths associated with vaccines and improve public confidence in vaccines
  • Be able to read and interpret immunisation schedules
  • Be able to safely administer vaccines via all prescribed routes of administration
  • Have the ability to operate an immunisation service in compliance with legal and regulatory standards
  • Be able to collaborate with other ummunisation stakeholders to improve the availability and access to immunisation services, aimed at reaching herd immunity

Assessment

The learner must successfully complete a formative and summative questionnaire as well as a practical injection assessment exam.

Injections must be administered in a real-life scenario under the mentorship of an experienced vaccinator.

Certification

To obtain a certificate of completion, the learner must achieve a pass mark of 70% in both questionnaires, as well as the practical injection assessment. 

The learner must also submit 25 in-practice injections signed off by a competent vaccinator.
