Recurrent idiopathic acute pancreatitis (RIAP) is a challenging clinical scenario. Despite improved imaging modalities including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) there remains a group of patients in whom a management strategy still relies on clinical judgement and a trial of therapy. The definition of RIAP is based on firstly what is meant by idiopathic and secondly the definition of recurrent.

The right to privacy is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. The Protection of the Personal information Act 4 of 2013 (POPI Act) is to give effect to the constitutional right of privacy. It safeguards personal information subject to the limitations aimed at balancing the right of privacy against other rights, particularly the right to access of information which protects the free flow of information. The right to access of information is regulated by the Promotion of Access to information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA). Both these laws are administered by the Information Regulator, an independent body established in terms of section 39 of the POPI Act. The Information Regulator is empowered to monitor and enforce compliance of POPI and PAIA by public and private entities.
