Who Should Enrol

This course is intended for pharmacists and other registered healthcare practitioners who want to perform vaccinations in a clinic setting.
Entrance is open for all healthcare practitioners who are registered as such with their respective councils and who are included in the EPI as immunisers.

Course Highlights

To equip pharmacists and other healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge to administer vaccines in a clinic setting.

Learning Outcomes

Upon the successful completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Explain how vaccines work
  • Discuss the expanded programme in EPI
  • Discuss target diseases and vaccines
  • Explain routes of administration and dosage
  • Administer injections (not intravenous)
  • Manage side-effects
  • Manage safe vaccine handling and storage including an overview of the cold chain.

Certification

To obtain the certificate of completion, the learner must achieve a pass mark of 70% in the questionnaire and submit 15 in-practice injections signed off by a competent injector.

Assessment

After completion of the knowledge section, the learner must successfully complete a multiple choice questionnaire as well as a practical exam and complete in-practice injections
